Care Guides

We all need a little TLC to keep us as good as new, and your beautiful new Fairfax & Favor investment is no different.

Boudica

Leather

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Leather is a natural material and needs oil/moisture to keep it soft and supple. To stop it drying out, hardening and cracking, treat it at least once a month with Renapur Leather Balsalm. Use a sponge or cloth and work the cream into both the toe creases and around the sole unit of your Boudicas.

Please note: exposure to salt water or animal waste / ammonia may cause degradation of the leather and the lining, and prevent it from performing effectively.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS

Not in the washing machine, please!
Clean the leather with a neutral-coloured microfibre cloth and leave it to dry naturally. Remove mud and dirt immediately to stop moisture being drawn from the leather.Always read the directions of the care product, and test on an inconspicuous area first. Fairfax & Favor cannot be held responsible for improper use of care or cleaning products. For any concerns, please contact our Customer Service team.

MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

Store your beautiful Boudicas away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Where possible, store your boots in their dustbags and blue box.
Nubuck

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Once you’ve used your Fairfax & Favor Boudicas a bit, you can treat them with either Suede & Nubuck Protector once a month or Liquiproof Premium Protector every couple of months – more often if you’re using a lot.

Spray the Suede & Nubuck Protector lightly and sparingly from at least a foot away and leave to prove for an hour.

If you’re using Liquiproof Premium Protector, apply sparingly section by section, brushing it in with a soft brush until the nubuck has been covered.

Please note: exposure to salt water or animal waste / ammonia may cause degradation of the leather and the lining, and prevent it from performing effectively.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS

Not in the washing machine, please!
Remove dried dirt or marked fibres using a soft suede brush. If it’s still dirty, use Liquiproof Eco Cleaner on light marks but dilute it heavily in warm water. If they become wet, leave them to dry naturally and brush. If anything else gets onto your product (like a wine glass accident), soak it up immediately and then wipe over with a lightly damp, neutral-coloured microfibre cloth.

Always read the directions of the care product, and test on an inconspicuous area first. Fairfax & Favor cannot be held responsible for improper use of care or cleaning products. For any concerns, please contact our Customer Service team.

MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

Store away from heat, damp, and direct sunlight. Where possible, store in their dustbags and the blue box provided for additional protection.

Please Note: Bright coloured nubuck can transfer with wear onto other fabrics and leave a mark. Likewise, dark coloured fabrics (like denim!) can also transfer onto brighter coloured suede and/ or leathers. This is perfectly normal and won't be covered under our warranty.

Explorer

Leather

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Leather is a natural material and needs oil/moisture to keep it soft and supple. To stop it drying out, hardening and cracking, treat it at least once a month with Renapur Leather Balsalm. Use a sponge or brush and work the cream into both the toe creases and around the sole unit of your boots. A small time maintaining the outer leather will help your boots perform for many years.

Dry, cracked, or dirty leather can prevent the waterproof Sympatex ® membrane from performing effectively.

Please note we recommend tightening the screw backs on the tassels once you receive your new boots, this will help ensure no lost tassels!

If you happen to lose the screw back off of your Fairfax & Favor tassel, we have Replacement screw backs available, Alternatively, if you have lost a tassel, please contact our Customer Service team who will be able to assist you further.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS

Not in the washing machine, please!

MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

The Explorers are tested to British Industry standards for 8 hours to confirm no water ingress. This means that the boots are waterproof to the elements for up to 8 hours if they are maintained properly*.
However, like all leather performance boots, excessive exposure will cause water absorption into, and eventually through, the leather. After exposure to water, the boots must be dried out fully at natural room temperature, and not in direct heat or sunlight. If the boots are not fully dried out after use, the length of time that the boots will remain fully waterproof may be lessened. Similarly, exposure to salt water or animal waste / ammonia may cause degradation of the leather and the lining, and prevent it from performing effectively.

The Vibram® soles, are heavy duty and are tested to British Industry Standards for slip resistance, flex, and wear.
To care for your soles, remove stones and clean thoroughly after use.

Punctures to the sole, insole damage and nicks/tears in the lining can all affect the waterproof ability of the boot.

Store away from heat, damp, and direct sunlight. Where possible, store in their dustbags and the blue box provided for additional protection.

We recommend using Boot Trees to fill out the calf, maintain their original shape and prevent ankle creasing. Where possible use a Signature Boot Bag for extra protection when travelling.

*Whilst the boots are tested to be waterproof in everyday conditions, puddles and wet grass etc. We do not recommend fully submerging or wading in them. For this type of activity the only true protection would be a rubber wellington.

L'Alliance Wellington

Rubber

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

To ensure your L'Alliance rubber boots stay in good condition it's important that they are regularly cleaned with water and allowed to dry naturally.

Occasionally you might notice a white powdery "Bloom" on the boots. This is perfectly normal and is insoluble particles that have risen to the surface, which is largely due to the characteristic of a premium product made from high-grade rubber and will not compromise the durability or performance of the boots.

Keep the zip clean and never force the zip. Dirt will wear the zip and significantly reduce its life, and don't leave the zip undone when wearing the boots, this will increase the chances of dirt getting into the zip.

Please note we recommend tightening the screw backs on the tassels once you receive them, this will help ensure no lost tassels!

If you happen to lose the screw back off of your Fairfax & Favor tassel, we have Replacement screw backs available, Alternatively, if you have lost a tassel, please contact our Customer Service team who will be able to assist you further.

Waterproof Coat & jacket

COMPOSITION

This product contains recycled materials. 100% Polyester Shell, 100% Recycled polyester Lining

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

A high tech lifestyle piece that will keep you warm and dry in style. Part of the Fairfax and Favor luxury edit, this product benefits from a BR2 10k waterproof rating. A layer of top quality PrimaLoft® BLACK Eco insulation protects against bitterly cold temperatures when your feet are firmly on land.

Musto treats the waterproof garments BR2 products, with a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment. This polymer prevents the garment outer fabric from being saturated with water. Wear and tear, salt, dirt or repeated washing can wear off the DWR treatment. Your garment may even appear to be leaking because the waterlogged outer is reducing the jacket’s breathability, creating condensation on the inside. When this happens, or to prevent this from happening, you will need to re-treat your product. We recommend you treat your garment only when the DWR performance begins to lower - it does not have to be after every single wash. You can test the DWR performance by sprinkling water on the fabric. If the water beads up and rolls off, the DWR does not need renewing. Reproofing will avoid you getting an uncomfortable wet out feeling that can rapidly put an end to your day out.

Musto recommends Granger’s Performance Repel or Clothing Wash and Repel to renew the DWR. Please follow the instructions on the re-proofing product.

Sadie

Waxed Cotton

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

Halley Stevensons Dry Wax cotton, cracks, creases and patinas, which is part of its beautiful character. This finish is a combination of their driest wax and soft aero tumbling. This emulsified wax finish is perfect for lightweight breathable and weather repellent garments.

Naturally through wear, the wax will gradually come off the fabric. Depending on the usage you will start to notice some fading in areas revealing the original dyed shade of fabric (applying wax darkens the dyed shade). This is due to the wax rubbing against itself and from movement (i.e. at the elbows).

You can treat your waxed cotton product with Halley Stevensons Reproofing Spray once wear starts to show. Always read the directions of the care product, and test on an inconspicuous area first. Fairfax & Favor cannot be held responsible for improper use of care or cleaning products. For any concerns, please contact our Customer Service team.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS

Not in the washing machine, please!
Remove dried dirt or marked fibres with clean warm water and a neutral-coloured microfibre cloth - leave it to dry naturally. Avoid aggressive detergents or rubbing with abrasive materials.

For toucher stains please Dry Clean & then Reproof with Halley Stevensons Reproofing Spray. Do not rub, do not soak, do not iron, and do not wring out. Dry Flat, and don't store damp.

Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged contact with skin. Use in a well-ventilated area.

MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

Store away from heat, damp, and direct sunlight. Lay clothing flat if possible; otherwise, use a broad hanger instead of the decorative loop to help prevent wrinkles.

The water-resistant treatment that is applied at production is not impermeable and may wear away with washing of the product.
