Meet the Three club horses!

Last year we had one very special horse for our inaugural year for the Fairfax & Favor Racing club. Due to the success of the first year, and after many more requests, we've decided to expand the Horses that form the backbone of the Racing Club. Not only will this mean more races, but it also means we have a broader range of events up and down the country, allowing you, the members, to attend as Owners & Trainers!

Horse 1 - Mayheblucky

Mayheblucky

Mayheblucky is a gorgeous chap with an exciting future ahead of him. Son of Libertarian, he’s built to be a chaser but will start his career over hurdles. He’s very athletic and has a kind and genuine eye – talent crossed with a great attitude.

Previously he’s run in three Irish point-to-points as a 4-year-old and was placed each time. That shows he’s hardy, consistent and most importantly loves his job!

Horse 2 - Illucidate

Illucidate

Illucidate is a lovely big filly who was purchased from the sales as a flat horse and Amy has trained her to start her career over hurdles.

She has run 4 times for the club so far and has placed once, she jumps brilliantly and is showing lots of potential, so we are excited to see where her jump racing career takes her.

Horse 3 - Vocal Studies!

Vocal Studies!

Vocal Studies is our first flat racehorse to join the club, he was purchased from Tattersalls horses in training sales in Newmarket back in October.

He had run 14 times before he joined the team At Nawton Racing, winning once and placing twice.

He enjoyed a holiday at Milbury Stud until January before going back into training with Roger and Sean. He had his debut run for the club on the 4th May where he came first so we are really excited for the rest of the season with him!

Meet the Three Trainers!

Returning for the second year, the Racing Club is now bigger and better. Now with 3 exceptional trainers, we really are ensuring that you, the members, have more chances to attend meets, events and days across the country. We're delighted to have added Roger Fell/ Sean Murray and Amy Murphy alongside the founding trainer of the Racing Club - Billy Aprahamian.

Billy is still a fledgling in the training ranks having only left Nicky Henderson's stables 18months ago, here he spent 3 years as assistant to the great man. Billy has started his second season strongly and has also doubled the size of his yard over the summer. We sponsored Billy in his riding days and now proudly sponsor his yard.

Having previously worked as a Pupil Assistant to Tom Dascombe and an Assistant Trainer Luca Cumani, as well as doing a winter spell in Australia with Gai Waterhouse, Amy joined the training ranks in Autumn 2016 having learnt from some of the very best in the world. Amy would like to welcome you on the adventure as she strives for success.

NAWTON RACING

Roger was granted a license in Autumn 2016 and has trained over 200 UK winners. In June 2023, Sean was added to the license after many years of dedication and hard work. Here at Arthington Barn, we have some fantastic facilities including our own gallop, three horse walkers and a lunge pit. We are a small yard with 50 horses in training, predominately on the Flat with a handful of National Hunt horses, and we have a great team who ensure the horses are looked after to a high standard.

If you’re one of the lucky Members, you’ll get to meet him at a special event at Fairfax & Favor HQ! We've got two more horses set to join the Club - so watch this space for more information!

About the Fairfax & Favor Racing Club

What’s the Fairfax & Favor Racing Club? Sounds exciting!
It is! When you buy a yearly membership in our racehorse, you become part of the Fairfax & Favor Racing Club for one year. The Racing Club is all about coming together to share in the thrill of racehorse ownership – alongside a shared love of the Fairfax & Favor lifestyle, obvs! It’s headed up by our brilliant Racing Club Manager (Sophie) - and our 3 trainers, who'll keep you in the loop with regular updates.
How many memberships are there available to buy and what do they cost?
There will be up to 600 yearly memberships available, and each one costs £299 for one year. When your year of Racing Club membership is up, you’ll be able to get first-dibs on next year’s membership.
Will I be able to go racing with my horses?
Of course – that’s the best bit of ownership! Each time one of the horses runs, we’ll hold a ballot in advance for owners’ badges. Each horse typically gets 12 tickets per race, though it does depend on the course, so don’t hold us to that! We'll pick owners by ballot to receive an owners badge in advance of each race, but don't worry - you can still buy tickets to see your horse race!
Can I take a friend with me?
Owner badge availability is limited, so unfortunately we’ll only be able to give Racing Club members a badge – we can’t provide for partners, friends or loved ones who aren’t members. They can of course attend the race with you whatever happens, but non-members won’t receive the same exciting race day privileges of an owner.
Will I receive the prize money?
You sure will! You’ll receive an equal share of any prize money after the standard Trainer and Jockey Rewards. We’ll calculate and return it at the end of each year, along with any leftover funds from the syndicate.

Remember, jockeys receive 10% of the prize money for a win and 5% if the horse has placed. The trainers get 10% and the rest goes to the owners. For example, if the horse won £10,000 in prize money, the jockey and trainer would each receive £1,000 and the owners would receive £8,000 (divided equally between all members)
What’s the dress code for a race day?
Smart casual is your best bet for most meetings – and don’t forget to adorn your favourite boots with your special Fairfax & Favor Racing Club member tassels! If a particular race has any specific requirements, we will of course advise in advance.

How can I be part of the Fairfax & Favor Racing Club?
We want to make sure everyone has an equal chance of experiencing the thrill of life as a racehorse owner, so membership initially available to existing members, then on a first come first serve basis!
What are the Race Day Privileges?
If you enter and win the ballot to attend a race as an owner, you can expect:
  • - Access to the paddock and pre-parade ring
  • - Access to the owners and trainers bar and restaurant
  • - Owners and trainers parking
  • - Meeting and talking with the jockey and trainer
  • - Some racecourses have complimentary refreshments for owners and trainers
  • - If the horse is placed, access to the Winner’s Enclosure
We want to make sure as many members as possible get to enjoy Race Day as an owner, so to keep it fair, each member can attend one race per year as a designated owner with all the ownership benefits.
When will I receive my welcome pack?
You can look forward to getting your goodies by post once you've purchased your yearly membership. Blue box delivery alert!
How many yearly memberships can I buy?
We want as many people as possible get the chance to be part of this exciting club, so we’re limiting it to one yearly membership per person to keep things fair. Only one person can hold a single yearly membership.
How long does the membership cover? From when to when?
After the year is up, all the members will receive a link to reactivate their membership before other applicants are selected.

About the horses

When can I visit the horses?
We’ll be running an exciting ‘Meet the Horses’ event at Fairfax & Favor HQ, Narford Hall where you can meet the horses and other members of the club! We will also be doing race yeard visits at each of the stables.
Will my horse be racing over jumps or on the flat?
Mayheblucky will be competing in jump racing, also called National Hunt Racing. We'll have two more horses competing too, another jump horse and a flat racer (details soon!)
What colours will the jockey be wearing?
Our iconic dark navy and gold, of course!
Who chooses when and where my horse races, and do I have a say?
Racing happens all over the country and different tracks suit different horses. There are many variables affecting whether a horse runs in a particular race, such as the going, race conditions, the standard and type of race, his ability and experience, and so on. That’s why the trainer chooses where the horse will be entered, after discussions with Fairfax & Favor.
